Abstract

When we hear the term “negotiation,” we often think of conflict, arguments, business deals, or international politics. However, negotiation is a part of our everyday lives—like dividing up household chores, deciding who takes the dog for a walk, or trying to persuade someone to change their opinion. All of these are forms of negotiation.
This article discusses the skills needed to manage negotiations effectively. Being a good negotiator is useful not only in formal settings like business or diplomacy, but also in daily life. Effective negotiation involves empathy, communication, and emotional intelligence, and can even help us avoid unwanted tasks—like walking the dog.
