Abstract

Global natural gas consumption has grown by 2% annually over the past decade, but Latin American countries especially Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile—have shown even greater growth, averaging 5.1%. A 154% increase is projected for the 2002–2020 period. This outlook could be considered conservative if we factor in drivers like the unexpectedly high international oil prices, which have exceeded $70 USD per barrel. Natural gas commercialization should be based on the unique characteristics of each country.
